Packers, sub-surface flow control and sub-surface safety systems — the barrier elements a completion is built around.

A packer is a key piece of downhole equipment in many completions: a sealing device that isolates and contains produced fluids and pressures within the tubing string. It is a well barrier element, usually part of the well's primary barrier, protecting the casing and creating an A-annulus. The packer is essential to the basic functioning of most wells, whether injectors or producers. Alternatives to a production packer include a dynamic seal assembly, a cemented completion and a packerless completion.

A flow control system gives the operator control of the well throughout its life. Landing nipples, for example, are placed strategically in the completion string so that well testing and intervention can be carried out safely. Ragtos offers a full range of plugs and sliding sleeves made from the materials and elastomers of the operator's choice.

The Surface Controlled Sub-surface Safety Valve (SCSSV) is the first line of defence against a well blowing out. The fail-safe system built into the valve is subjected to stringent, rigorous testing, and its intricate yet robust components ensure no compromise to safe operation.

01 Permanent Packer

Permanent Packer

Removable from the wellbore only by milling. Simple in construction and generally higher rated on both temperature and pressure than a retrievable packer, with a smaller outside diameter that gives greater running clearance inside the casing string.

Retrievable Packer

Ranges from very basic for low pressure and low temperature service to highly complex for HP/HT applications. Ease of removal, reset ability and reuse often outweigh the added cost of a high-end tool.

03 ESP Packer — Special Application

ESP Packer — Special Application

The ESP packer type gas separator breaks down gas slugs, separating gas into the annulus before it reaches the pump intake. An encapsulated shroud forces fluid through the separator, creating a temporary sump that reduces the free gas ingested by the pump.

Effective across many applications — curing losses, controlling high-permeability zones and fractures, improving equalization in passive and active ICD completions and, above all, controlling water and gas production.

05 Swell Packer

Swell Packer

Simplicity is the benefit: no moving parts, no pipe manipulation, no applied hydraulic pressure and no special service personnel. The packer is run to depth like casing and allowed to swell before production or injection begins.

06 Seal Element Detail

Elastomer wrapped on API pipe, with solid metal end rings that protect the element and create an extrusion barrier. Swellable packers can be rated as high as 10,000 psi.
